  1. Karen Joan Says:

I am lucky enough to be able to telecommute from home full time, and I spend fully 8 hours a day, every day, 5 days a week, on the phone. I put headsets through the wringer. Over the past 5 years, I have tried many different headsets, both wired and Bluetooth. With some, the earbuds were too big, hurt my ears, and gave me a perpetual headache. Others didn’t stay on, fell out, and were easily lost. Some just weren’t hardy enough. My younger daughter, as a toddler, found them easy to pry apart and rip out the internal wiring. (I lost two Jabras that way…sigh.) And with wired headsets, the wires just plain get in the way, or they get tangled, or they (again) are very tempting for little fingers.

Well, I am happy to say that after 18 months, I have just purchased my second JAWBONE BLUETOOTH HEADSET; this time, the JAWBONE PRIME. (Yes, even the JAWBONE wears out with constant use.) I am really thrilled with the JAWBONE PRIME; it is even better and more impressive than my first one, which was a JAWBONE II. I, personally, love these JAWBONE headsets. They are compact, unobtrusive, easy to wear, easy to use, and fit me beautifully. And, if possible, the JAWBONE PRIME fits even better than the JAWBONE II.

The JAWBONE PRIME stays in my ear, no problem, and is so light weight that I barely notice that it is there. It comes with 6 different earbuds sizes in two different styles and two earloop styles. The smallest bud and the padded loop are perfect for me. I have tested the fit by jumping up and down, shaking my head around, chasing after my children at full speed, and doing cartwheels (yes, cartwheels). I have taken my glasses on and off multiple times and even brushed my hair. The headset stays in. I find it very easy to use the hidden buttons; after all, I watched Lt. Uhura do it for years on Star Trek. Hold the button for a few seconds to turn the unit on or off, tap it once to answer or hang up calls. Easy as pie!

The sound quality is great; I can hear everyone and everyone can hear me. And the improved fit really makes a huge difference in the sound quality. With the JAWBONE II, there used to be a trick; you had to make sure that the voice activity sensor, which activates the NoiseAssassin, was touching your cheek near your jaw. It was easy for the older model to creep away from your face. Not anymore. The new and improved JAWBONE PRIME hugs your face. I don’t even check for contact any more. It is just there. The JAWBONE PRIME really works reliably every time I put it on. I am heard clearly, with no ambient noise. I have tested the NoiseAssassin in the car with road noise, with the radio on, with screaming children, with another phone ringing in the back ground. No hears anything but me.

My JAWBONE PRIME BLUETOOTH HEADSET is small, sleek, and silvery; it is practically hidden beneath my hair, but looks very professional when seen. Overall it fits my lifestyle perfectly, both professional and personal. It may not be the headset for everyone, but it sure is the right headset for me.

Sound quality is stellar, and the noise reduction seems to work even better than that in the original Jawbone. The battery lasts a good long while; I use mine every day as my primary phone, and I recharge every other day.

What keeps this from getting 5 stars from me is that it doesn’t fit as well as it should. The little nub on the underside needs to be touching your jaw (hence the name) in order for the noise-cancelling to work. But the ear hooks don’t keep it snug on my face for more than a few minutes at a time. I’ve developed the habit of re-snugging it as answer the call, so it’s not that big of a deal, but it is somewhat annoying. YMMV, it does fit fine on my girlfriend. My other beef is that the volume control seems to reset to the lowest volume every time the Jawbone goes to standby mode or loses connection with the phone. Why can’t you set it to the volume you prefer and forget it?

Until I lost it from an open pocket, I owned the Aliph Jawbone 2 that I regarded as EXCELLENT, from not only a listening standpoint but also for those receiving my phone calls.

The Jawbone Prime I purchased as a replacement is easier to adjust for volume level. What’s more, for those receiving my phone calls, it’s even more superior. (My aunt always is particularly sensitive to calls she receives from cell phones, especially those using Bluetooth. Since I replaced the Jawbone 2 with the Jawbone Prime, no more “I can’t hear you” or “You breaking up! Can you turn that microphone off.”)

As with the Jawbone 2, I’d strongly recommend AGAINST using without the earloop. A sudden jerk of the head (as when you start to slip on an icy sidewalk or in a real strong wind gust) can send any earloopless Jawbone flying, frequently with the earbud separating in the process.

Expensive but worth it! Takes a little getting used to when first adjusting to it. Sound clarity is super. Only complaint I have is the answer/call button is overly sensitive when trying to adjust the earpiece. So beware when adjusting & talking on the jawbone because you can hang up the line. So if you are debating in my opinion it’s one of the better bluetooths out there.

I’ve tried most everything out there for Bluetooth headsets. I had pretty much given up on the notion of finding one that worked well. At random, I clicked on Amazon Lightening deal and this was a good enough price that I went for it. I couldn’t be happier. I generally just use headsets in the privacy of my home or car, but this is not so imposing that it makes a big statement like “I’m so important that I need to be on a conference call constantly” (we all know somebody like that. The design is pretty subtle and the voice quality on both ends seem to be on par with using my handset direct. It’s a great combination of style and function (and in my case, price). The only negative marks I can list is the fact that the wind filtering does not seem to live up to its claim of withstanding10 MPH winds. I was in a soft breeze and it was clearly noticeable on the other end. That’s defiantly not a deal breaker to me, but worthy of mentioning. Overall a great headset!
