The 3.5 inch 'Retina' IPS LCD display really stands out on the new iPhone 4. It boasts an overall display resolution of 960x640 pixels and 326 pixels per inch. In plain language, no other cell phone available on the current market provides resolution nearly this high, which means you have never seen an image this clear on a mobile device.

As you take a look at the new iPhone 4, you will first see that the innovative new 3.5″ screen looks much sharper, thanks to the ‘Retina’ IPS LCD display new to this model of Apple’s smartphone. Each inch carries 326 pixels, and its display resolution is 960 by 440 pixels, meaning that it beats any other smartphone you can find out there. The practical benefit is that it is now much easier and much more enjoyable to take in images and text.

Processing power is always of the utmost importance and the iPhone 4 does not disappoint. It houses the strongest processor available, the same one used in the iPad. The issue of battery life has been addressed with the iPhone 4’s new battery which surpasses the iPhone 3G by 40% and provides seven hours of talk time (300 hours on standby).

The operating system has also been revamped from the iPhone OS 4.0 to the smoothly running iOS 4. Perhaps most pleasing to iPhone users will be the ability to multitask various applications while using their smartphone. Apple has stated that the new operating system has allowed the enhancement of approximately 1500 features on the new iPhone. Previously, a user had to stop iTunes playback in order to check their email – but now the user can listen to music and check email at the same time. Users will also be able to organize and create iTunes folders on the go and will even have the ability to tap into Apple’s emerging iBooks application.

Apple made huge advancements in the iPhone 4’s camera functions, which often received complaints as being inferior to the Apple standard that users expected. In addition to capturing 5.0 megapixel images, the iPhone can also record high definition video at an astonishing 720p. Another notable feature that Apple included is the ability to make video calls to other users. The application – named “Face Time” – is an attribute that no other smartphone company has released.

If you sign up for a two year contract, you can get the iPhone 4 for the more than reasonable price of $200. A service provider might be able to give you a better deal though, so be sure to shop around for different prices. The Internet is a great place to compare and contrast prices, and you can do so in less than a minute using a price comparison site.

Free iPhones for you and your family? Sounds too good to be true doesn’t it? The latest craze sweeping the internet is affiliate marketing, and it’s building up quite a head of steam. There are of course sceptics, but those who have been getting involved seem to be happy enough, and the affiliate sites themselves seem to be growing in number. They promise iPods, iPhones, digital cameras and PS3s to ‘members’ who sign up for a trial promotion, and get others to do the same. Are these sites for real, are they a scam and how can they afford to give stuff away for nothing? Read on and I’ll explain.

So what is affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a means of incentivising referrals to websites, a way to get people to get other people to sign up to trials. It might be an ad (like google adwords), or a promotional link banner through your website. It’s a bit like a sales commission for doing work on their behalf. If you put a link to another website on your website and someone clicks through it and then signs up to that product or service, you will get paid a commission for bringing in customers. Normally, this is a fairly small amount, but in some cases the stakes are much higher

How do these sites make money and still give away iPhones and PS3s?

Because of the way that sites like kudosnetwork and freebiejeebies (see below) are structured. The reason they can give you so much more is that most everyone who signs up wants to get an iPhone for themselves, and so it’s not just 18 referrals that you get, it’s the 18 referrals that each of the 18 people that you referred go out and get. That’s 324, and if all of those people want an iPhone, and get one, that’s 5832 customers all for the cost of 19 iPhones paid out, and so on it goes. As you can see, in a very short space of time, the numbers of people, and hence the income grows exponentially, and they can afford to honour their promise.

Advertising is not cheap, and when the consumer is paid instead of the advertising company, it adds up to quite a lot of nice free ’stuff’. Of course they say ‘free’, but there is time involved although little or not money leaves the hands of the savvy. Hence the appeals to youngsters (who tend to have lots of the former and rather less of the latter).

How do the site owners make money?

Considerable amounts of money, of course. He needs you, however, to make the wheels turn – the reason he comes up with salivating prizes to get you off your bum selling on his behalf. You are charged with the job of working out which of your friends would be interested in such a scheme, and more importantly which of your friends wouldn’t, and you keep pushing to reach your goal like a salesman after his bonus (iPhone). Meanwhile Mr. Site Owner sits there taking a commission for every sale her gets, and passes on a residual to you in the form of your gift. His marketing is clever, and as you can see, he is doing very well out of it.

But if everyone completed their referrals, would the site lose money?

Theoretically if they gave away iPhones to everyone, then they might make a loss, but as is always the case, not everyone makes it to the number they need to get their free gift; only achieving a couple of referrals or none at all. They have contributed to the list of people signed up, yet have received nothing in return. It all balances out in the end. If it doesn’t, the number of referrals required per item goes up to reflect how savvy the customers are being, or how much revenue the site is receiving. In short they are not likely to lose out as long as the advertisers are happy, and as far as we can tell, they are.

What about the advertisers?

Again, they probably would lose customers (and money) if all people cancelled, but this is never the case. There are always people who forget, or who don’t know how to cancel. More importantly, the company gets one very important thing; your attention. They get a chance to make a good impression. Think of it as a ‘loss-leader’, a sales call. If they can convince you that what they are selling you is good, then you will buy it and they will have a happy customer and a revenue stream. The reality is that some will stay, some will go, and some will forget to cancel their direct debit (and so remain ‘gym’ members by default)

So, is affiliate marketing worth getting involved in?

Yes, absolutely, categorically, and for all parties involved. Is it free? Not completely, but if you are wily, it won’t cost you a penny, just some time and some clever thinking. Find a list of people want a new iPhone themselves, and get them signed up ASAP.
