So at first it looks like it is way more likely to go black after several reds. But when the math is done the odds of the ball going red, red, red, black and red, red, red, red are exactly the same.

Because the focus in on action and not description, it is harder to ignore the references to the two towers. The first is that of Sauron himself, deep in the heart and darkness of Mordor. The second is that of the wizard Saruman who has fallen under Sauron’s control. You see the extent of Saruman’s treachery which is first mentioned in the Fellowship of the Ring.

Throughout the movie, you are introduced to some of the other characters which do not form the Fellowship but which are no less important. They include Theoden of Rohan, a human king who is fighting to keep his people safe. You meet the Ents, giant tree-like creatures who can walk and talk and who are truly fearsome when angered.

In the book, it is difficult to jump back and forth between the different parts of the Fellowship. The movie does this well and also allows us to get to know other important characters as well. It makes it more interesting for the audience to see the bravery of Eowyn of Rohan, the cowardice of Golum and other pivotal characters.

If you are someone who loves action, this book is filled with some of the most incredible scenes of any in fantasy literature. The main battle is that of Helm’s Deep, where humans hole up and are besieged by Orcs, Goblins and Uruk-hai.

Although The Two Towers is one of the least appreciated of the three books, it is definitely worth reading. It will help explain how things reach the point they do when The Return of The King begins.

Arena Football Back On American TV Screens

Though it enjoyed solid fan support and was popular among sports betting enthusiasts, arena football fell off the map with the demise of the Arena Football League. The original Arena Football League also made the mistake that many growing companies make in trying to grow too big too fast. Though the league prospered for years by keeping a tight rein on player salaries and team budgets, in the past few years there had been a drastic upward spiral in the cost of player contracts. A division between old line owners dedicated to fiscal responsibility and deep pocketed newcomers (including 80’s rock idol Jon Bon Jovi) anxious to spend as much as they wanted further exacerbated a business model that became more and more unsustainable. Eventually, the AF1 will prevail as the top level arena football league with the other two circuits serving as minor league developmental partners.

Bobby Hull–nicknamed The Golden Jet for his blond hair and his style of play–was the most feared goal scorer of the 60s and 70s and along with teammate Stan Mikita made the Chicago Blackhawks one of the NHL’s true offensive juggernauts. He and Mikita were the first NHL players to use curved stick blades, which made his already wicked slapshot even more difficult to stop.

Born in rural Belleville, Ontario Hull rose quickly through the ranks of junior hockey and by the time he was 18 had joined the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks. He was a very effective rookie, and by his third year in the league was leading the NHL in scoring. In’61, he played an important role in the Blackhawks’ Stanley Cup championship victory.

In’66, Hull broke a hallowed NHL scoring mark by becoming the first player to net more than 50 goals in a season. His 51st goal broke the record of 50 goals held by Montreal Canadien greats Bernie Boom Boom Geoffrion and Maurice Rocket Richard. Hull would go on to score 54 goals in the’66 and would surpass that mark by scoring 58 in’68.

Hulls tenure with the Chicago Blackhawks ended in’72, when he jumped to the upstart World Hockey Association (WHA). Initially, Hulls response that he would jump ship for a million bucks was an offhanded joke but when the WHA ownership agreed to contribute to that sum thinking that it would provide instant credibility for the league it became a reality.

Hull would quickly resume his offensive onslaught in the upstart league for his new team, the Winnipeg Jets. He would lead the Jets to two league championship AVCO Cup victories and in’77 set a new professional hockey record with 77 goals in a season.

Hull suffered from knee trouble throughout his career, and it eventually forced his retirement from hockey in’79. He would play in a few games for the Whalers before calling it a career. With the exception of an abortive comeback attempt with the New York Rangers in’81 that was the end of his professional hockey career.

Modern fans may be more familiar with Hulls third son, Brett Hull, who earned NHL superstar status in his own right. Like his dad, Hull was a prolific goal scorer with a scary slapshot and will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this year.

Hull is now 70 years old and splits his time between the Toronto area and Chicago where he serves as a PR ambassador for the Blackhawks organization. He is expected to formally induct his son into the Hall of Fame at the ceremonies later this summer.

People usually go on camping trips to enjoy themselves while spending some time in the great outdoors. Normal people do, at least.
